Breaking Open the Word (Youth) - Easter Sunday
“He saw and he believed.”
John 20:1–9
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.”
What’s happening
Easter Sunday is the day Christianity makes its biggest claim: Jesus is alive, He’s not just “inspiring” or “remembered,” but is truly risen.
In the Gospel, Mary goes to the tomb while it’s still dark and discovers something impossible: the stone is moved away.
Then Peter and the beloved disciple run to see for themselves. And they don’t understand everything yet… but they still take in what they see, and the moment changes them. The beloved disciple “saw and believed”, even before full clarity.
Easter is like that. Sometimes God gives you enough light to step forward, even if you don’t have every answer in your hand.
What it means to me
For many of us, faith can feel like: “I’m supposed to know everything,” or “I must be 100% sure before I trust.”
But the disciples show a different story: belief can start before everything clicks.
Also, Easter isn’t only for the future. St. Paul tells us that if we are united to Christ, then our lives have a new direction: to set our minds on things above, and to remember that our life is now hidden with Christ in God. That means our story isn’t stuck in one chapter. God can still write new life into it.
And if you’re thinking, “I’m just one teenager, or barely an adult, what difference can I make?”. Pope Francis reminds us of something bold: young people are agents of youth ministry. You’re not only receiving faith; you’re meant to share it in your own way.
God meets you where you are, sometimes slowly, respectfully, and with hope. He is patient, and He calls you to grow, not to panic.
That’s why community matters. You don’t have to figure everything out all at once. You are accompanied, journeying together, learning to trust step by step.
Today
Where do you need new life right now?
Something that feels stuck… or heavy… or beyond your own effort?
Bring that place honestly to Jesus
Ask Him to help you see with hope, not just with your own strength
Remember that your life is held in Him, even when you cannot see the full picture yet
Prayer
Jesus, help me believe, even when I don’t understand everything.
Help me live the new life You give. Amen
