Columbarium
We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves.
If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord;
so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.
For to this end Christ died and lived again,
so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
– Romans 14:7-9
A Sacred Place of Repose
Our Columbarium provides a serene and sacred space for the cremated remains (cremains) of our dearly departed. It is a place of peace, reflection, and prayer, fostering a sense of the joy of resurrection. Situated in the basement of the Church building, easily accessible via the car park, our Columbarium offers a retreat of light and tranquillity. Crafted seating offers quiet spots for prayer and reflection.
Our Catholic Understanding of Cremation
Since 1963, cremation has been permitted by the Catholic Church. The Church upholds the dignity of the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, destined for future glory at the resurrection. If these beliefs are maintained, cremation is acceptable, though burial or entombment of the body remains the preferred norm.
If cremation is chosen, the cremated remains must be entombed in a columbarium or buried in a sacred place and marked by a plaque or stone. The Church strictly prohibits scattering cremains or keeping them in a private home, as these are not considered reverent dispositions.
