What’s happening

Some of life's best moments are those shared with other people.

Whether it's celebrating after an exam, sharing laughter with friends, or having someone stand by you when things are tough, those moments remind us that we are not meant to go through life alone.

Yet many people today experience loneliness. We may be connected through social media, group chats and online communities, but still find ourselves longing for something deeper: to be known, accepted and loved.

This weekend, as we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity, the Church invites us to look at God in a different way. The Trinity is not simply a mystery to be understood. It reveals something about the very nature of God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit exist in a perfect communion of love.

God is relationship. God is communion.

What it means to me

If we are created in the image of God, then perhaps it is no surprise that we long for relationships too.

In his recent encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV writes that "at the heart of the Christian understanding of the human person lies the great biblical affirmation that men and women are created in the image and likeness of the Triune God."

Our desire for friendship, belonging and community reflects something of the God who created us.

Pope Leo also reminds us that "no one can single-handedly bear the weight of the challenges the world is facing." We all need people who journey with us, encourage us and help us grow.

This is exactly what we see in this Sunday's readings. In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us that God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son. God's response to humanity was not distance but closeness. He reached out to us in love and invited us into His life.

In the second reading, St Paul prays that "the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit" be with us. The word fellowship reminds us that faith is never meant to be lived in isolation. God draws us into a relationship with Himself and into a community with one another.

The Trinity reminds us that love, friendship and community are not simply nice things to have. They are part of God's dream for us.

We are made for communion because we are made in the image of a God who is communion.

Today

Take a moment to think about the people who have helped shape your life.

Who has encouraged you when you felt discouraged? Who has listened when you needed someone to talk to? Who has shown you God's love through their words or actions?

Thank God for them today.

Then consider whether there is someone you can reach out to this week. Perhaps there is a friend you have not spoken to for a while, a family member who needs your attention, or someone in your community who could use a word of encouragement.

A simple message, a conversation, or an invitation can remind someone that they do not have to walk alone.

If you are looking for a place to deepen your faith, build friendships and have honest conversations about life, consider joining Alpha Youth. Sometimes faith grows through the people we journey with. You may even want to invite a friend along.

After all, the Trinity reminds us that we were never meant to do life alone.

Prayer

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

You are a communion of perfect love, and You created us to share in that love.

Thank You for the people You have placed in our lives - our families, friends, mentors and communities. Help us to cherish these relationships and to be a source of encouragement to others.

Teach us to notice those who feel alone and to reach out with kindness and compassion. May our lives reflect Your love, so that others may come to know that they are valued, loved and never alone.

Amen.
